Well I've really gone and done it now! I've wanted to do a clip of this song forever, since I think its really one of the best. But for obvious reasons, I've had some difficulty with the vocals. So I tried to take my time, and they're still not perfect (I really could use a lesson or two), but here it is: Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0HNG92BDOMJNW1U8S6OREV6EAM I'm actually quite scared of posting this (more than any other clip) because in parts, the vocals are VERY naked, which I think makes the song that much more powerful. But I'm quite pleased with the result. I have always sung along to this song because its just got so much emotion, and I find myself doing the same with this version too. Technically, the basic track is Edi's backing, my Yamaha acoustic guitar, and my Rickenbacker. XT was used for all amp and delay tones, and I used the DHP-33 for octave doubling. I tracked into Logic using my MOTU 828mkII, and mixed with very few effects. Compression and cut eq on the vocals. The EQ was set to a wide Q, to remove frequencies in the 1.3kHz range, which were fighting with the rest of the track. Compression was about 4:1. Falsetto vox (doubled, panned slightly left/right) were the same, slightly heavier compression to even things out, no eq. A little reverb on mostly everything, but not too much. Oh, and I made a pop filter (finally) so no more popped "p"s! My Rickenbacker is 3/4 scale, so some of the high notes on the slide solo are a little out of tune, since the frets are VERY narrow up there. Anyway, I hope you like it. I'm proud of it, and though its not perfect, I really had a blast doing it. I'd love to hear comments and critiques, especially technical ones, since I'm always trying to improve my mixing and recording. Thanks! Mike
